With only 30 animals left in the eastern stock of North Pacific right whales, sightings are incredibly rare and special. In August 2021, a team of NOAA biologists spotted 4 animals near Kodiak Island. This video shows two sighted in Barnabas Trough.

New Sighting of Right Whales Feeding in Bering Sea in Winter

In early February, commercial fishermen spotted at least two endangered North Pacific right whales among a large group of around 20 whales. This may be the first visual evidence of North Pacific right whales feeding in the Bering Sea in winter.
